JENN'S ACCUTANE JOURNAL

WEEK 10

Week of Nov. 24 thru Nov 30, 2001

Hi everyone!!

Well I'm happy to announce I've had a great week. My face is clear except for one little pimple which is in its final leaving stage. My neck on the other hand is clearing also and the big pimples I had last week are now little bumps, so I expect then to be gone soon too. I want to mention that I was applying a cotton ball of Hydrogen Peroxide 3% every morning this week to make my neck clear faster. I know this isn't good to do while on Accutane but I couldn't resist! Other then that I have no active/new pimples this week.

The only "bad" thing I've noticed this week is that my eyelid started peeling! It itched a lot and was bothersome but I put Cetaphil on it and it went away quickly. I just found this extremely weird since the rest of my face isn't dry (as in peeling).

I haven't started using the Vita-K stuff again since I'm afriad I might break out again :( I guess I'll keep it around until when I'm done with the treatment or when I'm more sure about not breaking out. Right now I think it is still to soon.

Well I got a really wonderful email from a lady who was a Dermatologists Assistant and who also went through a couple treatments of Accutane. I wanted to share some of the advice she gave me with you.

First off she told me that Accutane users are not supposed to get chemical peel of retinal facials during OR 12 months after you FINISH your Accutane treatment. I found this interesting since I was actually planning on getting a peel as soon as my treatment was over. She explained that your skin is still in a very sensitive and healing stage during the year after treatment.

She also mentioned that Accutane users are not supposed to use retinal and alpha hydroxy products during or 12 months after either. Some of us on the message board speculated this but now we actually have a final answer! :)

I want to mention that for the last 2 months I have been using Neutrogena Flawless Finish Blemish Treatment Foundation, which contains Salicylic Acid, but have not had any type of problem with my now very sensitive skin. But this is a Beta Hydroxy Acid and should also not be used. Guess I have to find another foundation...

OHH and I have posted a reallllllly good article on Accutane which covers a wide array of topics that have to do with Accutane and can answer a lot of questions so please check it out - I entitled it "Accutane Article" (I'm very creative) and it's from DermaDoctor.com which can answer many acne questions as well. I also added another link entitled "Alternative Acne Treatment" which talks about Diet affecting acne and Vitamin E. It's just a short explanation but I think it is helpful also.

Well hopefully I won't be writing about any change in my skin as I hope it stays this clear from now on - but I will keep you updated and will also write about any hints/tips/advice I learn along the way to help you out also! So keep coming and sharing your info on the message board too :)
