Here we go again. So I started my second round last Monday and I'm here to tell you what happens this time around.
After being placed on birth control for a month and taking an online quiz (very easy and pointless) I was told to go
get my lab work done the day before my derm appointment. Once at the appointment the Derm said everything was fine and
prescribed me the generic version of Accutane. When I went to pick up my prescription I was SHOCKED at the price. Since
I'm not covered by insurance this time around it was $442.96 - and that was just for one months worth of pills (60 mg a day)!
Fortunately my parents know how important it is for me and are helping me out - otherwise I wouldn't be able to afford it
(I'm just a college student now!)
First of all I was dry within 3 days. On the third day my face was peeling but I have to admit I wasn't moisturizing
all that much (about once a day). My scalp also became quite dry and flaky which meant I had to wash my hair daily -
which only made it dryer and thus a cycle ensued. I bought Head and Shoulders Dry Scalp Care and it has worked pretty
well (and it smells good too). I still use Pantene to condition my hair afterward though. My lips have also been extremely
dry. I knew this was coming though so I stocked up on Blistex beforehand and haven't had a problem.
On about day 7 I began to break out pretty bad all around my mouth and neck. It was discouraging but I knew
it would happen.
My daily regime is as follows:
Morning
- Wash with Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser
- Moisturize with Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion
Throughout the day
- Constantly applying Blistex
- Occasional moisturizer when needed
Night
- 60 mgs of Sotret (generic Accutane)
- Wash with Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser
- Moisturize with Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion (BUT I add a drop of 100% Tea Tree Oil to it and mix to help with the break
out and red marks)
Just to mention some of my concerns here as well. I'm a little older now, hopefully a little wiser and not as naive.
With that said I was reading some Accutane message words and found a recurring theme of ex-Accutane users complaining of heart
palpitations. I was diagnosed with this in the military and although many things can cause this, now I wonder if Accutane
had anything to do with it. I plan on researching more about this for next week's entry.
Thanks for joining me.
